Stephen makes his home in the small
northern California
town of Magalia. He has been painting for over 40 years.
His early education included 5 years of study at the
Art Center School in Los Angeles where he recieved a BFA.
Military
service followed,
with assignment as a combat
artist in Vietnam, where he
completed 19 paintings for the
Army's War Art Collection.
His war art has been published
in many books, been exhibited in
the Smithsonian, the Pentagon
and many traveling exhibits and
private exhibits most recently at
the Indianapolis Art Center.
His
working career followed as an
illustrator and graphic designer
in Los Angeles, including 3 years at
MGM Studios and other design
firms supporting the film industry.
After 8 years he relocated to northern
California and for the last 17 years
has had his own illustraton and
design business.
During all this time, he has pursued
his painting on the side, producing
still lifes, landscapes and portrait
commissions.
During
a trip to Ireland in 1997, he fell in
love with the rural west of Ireland, the music,
the people and the countryside.
In 2001 he returned to Ireland for 2 1/2 months,
soaking up the atmosphere and collecting images
for a planned series of watercolor paintings.
He is currently working
on
additional paintings
for this series.
