your club’s field trip leader for further information and
revisions. CO-OP website also has information:
www.ourfieldtrips.org (Password is needed.) All non-CFMS members
must have proof of personal liability insurance (renters or homeowners
policy). These trips are open to all rockhounds who agree to
abide by the AFMS Code of Ethics, the directions of the field trip
leader and practice safe rockhounding. Call the field trip leader beforehand to sign up and for further information. Remember to wear your name badge and sign in with the field trip leader. A Consent and Assumption of Risk Waiver of Liability form must be signed upon arrival at meeting site.

Jim Hutchins will be here to discuss and demonstrate Mineral
Identification. Bring your minerals, rocks and semi-precious stones for
identification.
September: Steve Hart, author of the newly
published book, "Modern Rock Tumbling" will demonstrate rock tumbling,
answer questions and you will have an opportunity to purchase his new
book and have it signed by the author.
October:
Kirk Demaresk, our club member, will be giving a talk on Bonsai,
decorated with rocks. He recently won an award for his Bonsai
arrangement in Chico.

Aug. 30, 31, Sept. 1: Cedarville, CA Fossils for Fun Society. TRIP LOCATION – Cedarville, CA WHEN – Labor Day Weekend, August 30, 31, Sept.1, 2008 SPONSOR CLUB – Fossils for Fun Society MEMBER'S GUESTS
– Allowed. Any member of a CFMS club is welcome, or someone willing to
join FFF. Applications will be available. Membership $18 for one and $8
for each additional family member. MEET – 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Sunrise Motel (#54889 Highway 299 in Cedarville). DIRECTIONS TO SITE/CAMP
- an 8 hour drive from Sacramento. Take I-5 to Redding, then Highway
299 East to Alturas and then to Cedarville. Or, take Highway 395 north
from Reno to Alturas and then take Highway 299 East to Cedarville. VEHICLE REQ'S – high clearance vehicles can get to most sites.Cemetery Rd. is okay for cars. CAMP/FACILITIES –
call now for reservations. Sunrise Motel (530) 279-2161, has rooms and
hookups and tent sites. National Forest Campgrounds on Highway 299 west
of Cedarville and Alturas has motel rooms. TOOLS
– rock hammer, paper to wrap specimens, carry bags, hand lens and scope
for identifying wood, digging tools. Bring a strong back pack. SAFETY CONCERNS
– Saturday’s hike is seriously difficult, over 3-4 mountains, at a high
elevation. The farther you go, the better the wood. Stay together, do
not separate from the group. Bring “walkie talkies”, sunscreen and
insect repellent. CLIMATE/WEATHER – could be hot, cool, rainy or even snow! CLOTHING – layered clothing, protection from the sun, insects, a walking stick is good for balance. OTHER REMARKS
– Potlucks at the Sunrise Motel, Saturday and Sunday. Nearby hot
spring. Restaurants have good food, but slow service. Bookstore and 2
grocery stores. Patronize the local stores please. There is one gas station in town.

– can be HOT so be prepared with hat and sunscreen – layered clothing –

Hillsides are rocky and sometimes steep. CLIMATE/WEATHER - variable but mostly warm with cool nights CLOTHING - layered with long pants, light weight long sleeves if susceptible to sunburn. Good boots. OTHER REMARKS
- Please bring walkie talkie type radios if you have them – when we are
ready to go on to another location we want to be able to get you in, in

Activity
Night
The
second Thursday of each month is Activity
Night where members and visitors can get hands-on
experience in lapidary, beading, wire wrapping,
and much more. Put those buckets of collected rocks to
use! Bring your slabs and beads or just your questions
and imagination and learn to make something wonderful.
Visitors Welcome!
The
Paradise Gem & Mineral Club has a growing dynamic library
of videotapes, and books and periodicals devoted to geology,
mineralogy and lapidary. The traveling library is
set up at most meetings for members to look at and check
out library materials to read. The actual collection is
larger and requests for a book not brought to a meeting
should be directed to Vernita Wright 534-8364 or use our
online Library
list and order form.

Club
Members are invited to advertise items for sale related
to the Lapidary & Metal smithing arts or field trip related
stuff such as camping or mining equipment. Now if that isn't
